Pudong airport readies to deal with holiday crowd

PUDONG airport officials are working toward fast check-in and security checks for passengers to deal with the Spring Festival travel rush.

More self check-in machines will be put up for people traveling light, the Shanghai Airport Authority said.

Frequent flyers or some business class travelers on domestic flights can do online check-in and then receive a faster security check at the airport.

Chinese passengers coming back from an overseas visit can quickly scan their biometric passports at the immigration checks.

Authorities said the entire process would only take 12 seconds.

Pudong is expected to handle around seven million passengers from 51,000 flights for the 40-day Spring Festival rush that starts from January 24.

The airport will open new shuttle bus routes between the airport and downtown hotels.

Passengers will be able to book seats on the shuttle buses on the airport’s official website.

The free WiFi services at the airport will be extended to cover the parking and catering areas.
