Railway authority's new rules raise eyebrows
UNUSED train tickets, except those for the bullet trains, will become invalid after designated departure time, according to a revised railway regulation which will take effect tomorrow.
The new rules have drawn complaints online because the current regulation allows late-arriving passengers to exchange their tickets for other trains within two hours after the departure time.
Under the new rules, passengers are required to make exchange procedures ahead of the departure time. Those who miss the train, except for bullet trains, for special reasons have to win the station master's permit to change for other trains within two hours after the departure time.
"The revised rules should also specify compensation to passengers if a train runs late," said a netizen in Shaanxi Province.
News about the Ministry of Railway's latest move has attracted more than 6,000 comments on sina.com, one of China's major news portals.
Apart from ticket exchange, the threshold height for children's half-price ticket has been raised by 10 centimeters in the new rules.
Children, 1.2 meters to 1.5 meters tall, can buy the half-price tickets from tomorrow, compared with 1.1 meters to 1.4 meters before.
The new rules added that bullet train passengers are banned from carrying luggage of over 20 kilograms in weight or over 130 centimeters in length.
