Rain, mild weather forecast for 3 days
SHANGHAI should warm up a little with some rain in the next three days even though the Chinese lunar calendar says winter has begun, meteorologists said yesterday.
With the influence of a wet and warm air mass, it will be overcast and drizzly today and the minimum temperature should climb back above 10 degrees Celsius, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
It will range between 11 and 18 degrees today, the bureau said. Tomorrow and Saturday will see the mercury fluctuate between 16 and 19 degrees.
The rain should stop on Saturday night and the sky should clear on Sunday, the bureau added.
Yesterday was lidong, or the beginning of winter, and it felt fairly accurate as the temperature dropped below 7 degrees in most parts of the city in the morning.
Despite the lunar calendar stating winter has begun, the bureau said the city doesn't usually enter its true winter until the end of November or the beginning of December, said Zhang Ruiyi, a chief service officer of the bureau.
The bureau declares the start of winter after the average temperature drops below 10 degrees for five straight days. The first of those five days is considered the first day of winter.
