Rain will ease heat today but muggy feeling stays
THE heat is expected to ease today and tomorrow as drizzly rain and clouds help drop highs below 30 degrees Celsius, forecasters said.
High humidity should keep it warm and muggy, but not as uncomfortable as Monday and Tuesday, two days with 36-plus degree highs, they said.
A construction worker died yesterday of a sun stroke after collapsing at a construction site on Tuesday.
The high for the next two days is expected to be 29 degrees Celsius, with a low of 25 today and 23 tomorrow, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
"The high in the next five days should stay between 28 and 30 degrees," said Fu Yi, a chief service officer of the bureau. "But since the air will be wet, it will feel stuffy."
The weekend will see thundershowers, with a high of around 28 degrees Celsius.
The city's highs of 36.4 and 36.6 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, was the first time in 33 years the city has had two consecutive days over 36 degrees in mid-June, officials said.
Yesterday's high hit 33.8 degrees downtown, but hit 35 and 35.6, respectively, in Fengxian and Jinshan districts.
