Rainy days keep summer at bay
MORE hot weather is forecast today, but tomorrow will see the return of the rain clouds and the start of a cooler second half of the week.
A high of 27 degrees Celsius is expected today, but that will likely fall to 24 tomorrow due to the showers, said Zhu Jiehua, one of the city’s chief service officers.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the high will be between 20 and 26 degrees, he said, adding that the cooler days are likely to delay the official arrival of summer.
This is deemed to have happened when the mean temperature on five consecutive days is at least 22 degrees. Such a balmy run has yet to be recorded, Zhu said.
Over the past decade, summer has tended to arrive about May 21, so this year it is later than usual, he said.
