Road collapses as water pipe bursts
A WATER pipeline in Jing'an District broke early this morning, collapsing a section of road and spilling a large amount of silt.
A three-meter deep pit appeared near the intersection of Fengyang Road and Datian Road this morning, disrupting traffic. But water supply was not affected, and the pipeline was fixed three hours after it broke around 3am.
According to the repairmen, the water which accumulated after the pipe broke had caused part of the road to collapse.
The broken pipeline had flushed out large quantity of dirt and silt, with some spilling into nearby shops.
"We saw many firemen cleaning up the silt while we were heading to work," said a witness surnamed Cai.
