Roads closed for New Year's Eve
ROADS in the area of the Bund downtown will be cordoned off by police on Monday night to give way to the celebration of the annual New Year's Eve countdown, police said yesterday.
Vehicles and bicycles will not be allowed from 7pm on Monday to 12:30am on Tuesday in the area encompassed by Beijing Road E., Zhongshan Road E1, Yan'an Road E. and Sichuan Road M. in Huangpu District.
One of the highlights of the countdown celebration will be a 30-minute "4D" light show on the Bund, which starts at 11:40pm on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Nanjing Road E. Station of Metro Line 2 and Line 10 will also be shut down during the period. The Dongjin Ferry Line connecting Jinling Road E. Station on the Bund and Dongchang Road Station in the Pudong New Area is expected to be closed, as is the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel, police said.
Outdoor celebrants should brace for a chilly night as a new round of cold fronts is heading toward the city. Monday is forecast to be clear with a low early in the day of minus 2 degrees Celsius, said the Shanghai Observatory.
Later Tuesday morning, roads in downtown Jing'an District will also be closed for the New Year's run, police said.
The health run will be held from 7:45am to 8:30am and the course, starting from the Shanghai Exhibition Center on Yan'an Road M., should pass Huashan Road, Nanjing Road W., Shaanxi Road N. and Weihai Road, which should all be closed during the run.
Besides the traffic, the operation of the Shanghai Exit and Entry Administrative Bureau will also be adjusted due to the New Year's holiday, police added.
Windows of the bureau will be closed from Tuesday to Thursday, while the operation tomorrow and Monday should remain normal.
The operation on January 5 and 6 should return to normal, police said.
