Rush-hour delay on Metro Line 2

THOUSANDS of passengers were delayed at stations along Metro Line 2 after a section of it broke down during peak hours this morning.

A mechanical problem occurred about 6:30am between Songhong Road Station and Weining Road Station in Changning District, according to today's Oriental Morning Post.

Passengers could only travel from downtown to Songhong Road at the west end of the line. Shanghai Shentong Co, the Metro operator, advised passengers at the three stations to take buses or other transport, and adjusted the interval to five minutes between trains from Weining Road to Zhangjiang High-Tech Park.

The Metro line was back to normal at 8:30am and Shentong is investigating the accident.

Shentong announced yesterday that Metro Line 2 will finish operation one hour earlier between February 18 and 21 to test signals. It said earlier that trains between Longyang Road Station and Zhangjiang High-Tech Park Station would be suspended for station relocation for 10 days starting from Sunday. Zhangjiang High-Tech Park Station will be moved underground.

The last train will set off about 9:50pm during the works. Free public transport will be arranged for passengers between the two stations.
