Safety tests to begin before opening of new Line 10 stations

FOUR new stations along Metro Line 10's western end are expected to open by the end of this month or early next month, said the city's subway operator yesterday.

The stations will be welcomed by travelers as three of them are at the city's biggest traffic center, Shanghai Hongqiao Transport Hub.

The long-awaited section, which begins testing from Sunday, will also help to ease the pressure on the current Metro Line 2 which shares two stations with Line 10 inside the hub, said the operator.

The stations are Shanghai Zoo, Hongqiao Airport Terminal 1, Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 and Hongqiao Railway Station.

Passengers can change between Line 2 and Line 10 at the railway station and terminal 2 station.

Line 10 is a Y-shaped line, with the main line running from the Hongqiao Railway Station to Xinjiangwancheng Station and a branch section from Hangzhong Road Station to Longxi Road Station.

The operator warns passengers to pay extra attention at Longxi Road Station.

Some train services will ask them to leave the trains and take the following ones to the branch line instead. The empty trains will then travel along the new section.
