Season Of Unmellow Fruitfulness

TAKE an umbrella before going out as the annual plum rain season begins today. Rain, thunderstorms - high humidity - or all three, are expected from today and should last for about 30 days. However, there will be intermittent high-temperature days in between.
The name of the plum rain season derives from the harvest season of plums when the weather is usually humid with continual rain. With the warm humid conditions, food, clothes and furniture easily become mildewed. Many people feel uncomfortable in this period.
Normally, Shanghai and the neighboring provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui are influenced by the same rain belt during the season.
Once the season ends, the city will face some real scorching days.
