Shift Focus To Research
SHANGHAI should focus more on research, value-added manufacturing and services as it develops new-energy industries such as solar and wind power, a scholar said.
While other provinces, including neighboring Jiangsu, have led the way in manufacturing solar cells, Shanghai could focus more on testing and certification businesses, a key process before such products can be sold abroad, said Huang Zhen, dean of the energy research institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Huang also said the government should give more support to new-energy firms in the private sector.
