Songjiang cab fares up

TAXIS in Songjiang District will raise their fares from August 1 to boost the income of drivers.

The new fares will mainly affect passengers on long-distance trips or those taking taxis after 11pm.

The fare after the first 10 kilometers will rise by 30 percent, the district’s development and reform commission said yesterday. There will be a 20 percent hike in fares for trips between 11pm and 5am, it said.

The starting fare, however, will remain the same — 11 yuan (US$1.77) — for the first 3 kilometers. It will be 2.40 yuan for every kilometer after that. It will be 3.12 yuan after 10 kilometers.

The new flagdown fare between 11pm and 5am will be 13.2 yuan. Passengers will be charged 2.88 yuan between 3 and 10km, rising to 3.74 yuan for every kilometer after that.
