Strong winds greatly improve air quality

THE city will enjoy excellent air quality for most of this week thanks to strong winds from the sea, but the mercury will soon begin to soar again, forecasters said yesterday.

Showers are expected today and moderate rain is forecasted for southern parts of the city, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said. The temperature will range between 28 and 34 degrees Celsius.

It will be cloudy with showers in some areas tomorrow and the high will reach 34 degrees.

The Western Pacific subtropical high will push the temperature back up to 35 degrees on Thursday and Friday, which will be cloudy.

On Saturday, it will be cloudy with intermittent showers in some areas, and the temperature will reach 35 degrees.

The highest temperature recorded yesterday by the Xujiahui weather station was 34.1 degrees Celsius.
