Subway construction to cause traffic snarls downtown
BUSY downtown streets such as Nanjing Road W. and Weihai Road will likely be more congested during rush hours beginning this month due to ongoing
construction of two new subway lines.
Digging of more underground tunnels will begin this month for lines 12 and 13. The city's construction watchdog said it will strictly monitor the sites to
ensure construction vehicles only use the roads during off-peak hours to reduce traffic congestion as much as possible.
Nanjing Road W., Weihai Road and Shaanxi Road S. will face the biggest impact, according to the watchdog.
Last month, an average of 6.7 million people used the Metro every day.
