'Suicide' pair leap into path of train
A MAN and woman jumped from the platform of a Metro station into the path of an oncoming train yesterday morning, in an apparent suicide bid.
The man was killed and the woman seriously injured when they were struck by a train at Line 1's Tonghe Xincun Station, said the city Metro operator.
Rush hour services were disrupted for around 15 minutes by the incident at 7:43am.
The train driver had applied emergency brakes in an effort to avoid a collision.
Witnesses described the scene afterwards as "horrific."
Photographs posted online showed the man in a bloodstained white shirt. The woman's jacket was wrapped around her head.
The woman was in critical condition in a Baoshan District hospital last night.
Police are investigating.
