Sunny days set for chilly interruption

THE current warm, sunny weather in the city will come to an end tomorrow night with the arrival of a strong cold front bringing a drop in temperature and thunderstorms over the weekend.

Shanghai Meteorological Bureau says rain and thunderstorms are expected on Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures will fall to between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius on Friday, and further down to 2 degrees on Saturday morning.

The sun will return from Sunday for three to five days as the cold front leaves and temperatures may then hit 20 degrees over the following days.

Tomorrow's cold front will delay Shanghai's spring which meteorologists say is only official after the average temperatures for five consecutive days reach above 10 degrees.

Shanghai had its warmest day for the past month on Monday, when temperatures topped 18 degrees. Yesterday, the highs reached 15.7 degrees.

Forecasters said temperatures will stay at 16 degrees today. They warned drivers to be cautious with fog expected at the mouth of the Yangtze River.
