THE city's first multi-voltage 500-kilovolt underground transformer station went into operation yesterday. The Jing'an transformer station, 30 meters under Nanjing Road W., contains two 500-kilovolt transformers and is expected to support power supplies for the World Expo site and Shanghai's downtown areas, Shanghai Electric Power Co Ltd, said yesterday.
