Tembin to bring rain, wind today

SHANGHAI is expected to face another storm late today, following the departure of Typhoon Bolaven. Typhoon Tembin has turned around and is coming toward the east coast of China.

Tembin, the 14th tropical storm this year, formed on August 19. It was around 800 kilometers from Shanghai at 2pm yesterday, moving northeast along the coast of east China, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Showers with gales are forecast this afternoon as Tembin nears. But the main effect of Tembin, from tonight to early tomorrow, should be limited. It should slip to a strong tropical storm by then.

"Although Tembin should be closer to Shanghai than Bolaven, the influence should be smaller," said Wu Rui, a bureau chief service officer.

"Shanghai should be in its 200-kilometer cyclone, with the gales up to 61 kilometers per hour."

Shanghai should be cloudy with showers today and tomorrow with a high around 31 degrees Celsius. Showers should stop on Friday and a weekend high of 34 is forecast.

Tembin is likely the city's last typhoon this year, according to Wu.
