The 'Great Heat' day today with no respite to expect
HEAT waves will continue this week after relief from the thunderstorms during the weekend, with the mercury possibly reaching 39 degrees Celsius either tomorrow or the day after forecasters said.
Today has been marked "Dashu", or Great Heat, indicating Shanghai will enter the hottest period of the year.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow high temperature alert at 12:42pm, which marked today the 18th high temperature day this summer with the mercury exceeding 35 degrees.
The high is forecasted to exceed 37 degrees on the first three days of this week, making Shanghai one of the hottest cities in China. The night temperature in the city is predicted to be higher than that of the other major cities.
It has been predicted that starting Thursday there will be frequent thunderstorms in the afternoon.
The weather today will be partly sunny, with the temperature hovering between 28 and 36 degrees.
