The heat is on its way
SCORCHING heat returns to the city tomorrow and will last the rest of this week, the city's weather bureau said yesterday.
Tomorrow's maximum temperature is forecast to reach 34 degrees Celsius, five degrees more than yesterday, and should climb over 36 this weekend, Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
The bureau said there should be no repeat of yesterday's heavy rain with conditions turning cloudy with the occasional shower.
Heavy fog and rain affected the city yesterday morning, especially at the mouth of the Yangtze River.
The Waigaoqiao port said 47 international ships canceled or altered schedules because of fog.
Suburban Chongming County was hardest hit by the rain, with 68.5 millimeters.
The weather bureau issued a yellow thunder alert, lightest of the three-level system, yesterday morning. It was lifted in the afternoon.
