Thundershowers set to bring down temperatures

THUNDERSHOWERS are forecast for part of the city again today and tomorrow afternoon, forecasters said yesterday.
Temperatures will dip by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the rest of the week due to some easterly and northerly airflows from the sea. The high will be around 33 degrees, and the low 26 degrees.
A high temperature day was recorded yesterday, with the mercury hitting 35.2 degrees.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow high temperature alert at 11:40am and then a yellow lightning alert at 12:50pm for the thundershowers in northwestern areas in the city.
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was affected by the thundershowers and about 20 flights were diverted to Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Takeoffs from Hongqiao weren’t disrupted by the weather, said officials.
Landing services there resumed at 2:30pm when the weather improved.
Today will be mostly cloudy, with some thunder and lightning and showers occurring in the afternoon.
The humidity is forecast to be a bit higher than yesterday, ranging between 45 and 85 percent. Similar conditions will last through Sunday when skies turn clear. However, more rainy days are forecast for next week.
Although solar term liqiu — the start of autumn — falls today, the local weather bureau said the beginning of autumn in the city usually comes in late September or early October.
