Thunderstorm delays flights and floods roads across Shanghai
A heavy thunderstorm delayed 17 flights scheduled to depart from Shanghai this morning as of 9:30am.
Meanwhile, two escalators in the Caoyang Station of Metro Line 3 were shut down due to a leaking roof, the local news website, Xinmin.cn, reported.
The rain gushed from the leaking roof like a waterfall, forcing the station workers to open an emergency exit to drain the flood and close the two escalators. But the leakage didn't affect the Metro operation.
The thunderstorm also caused flooding in more than 10 roads in Yangpu and Hongkou districts in the northeast part of Shanghai, according to the report.
In Zhenru, a town in western Putuo District, a precipitation of 98.3 millimeters was recorded, the most in the city.
An underground crossing on Qilianshan Road was closed as it was submerged in rainwater of 40 centimeters deep.
