Thunderstorms heading for city
THUNDERSTORMS are expected to hit the city tomorrow and they will stay around until Monday. Temperatures will drop slightly with temperatures ranging between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius.
Today is cloudy with temperatures of around 34 degrees.
A heat wave is sweeping across northern Beijing, Tianjin Municipality, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, the eastern province of Shandong, central Henan and the southern part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region today with temperatures hitting up to 39 degrees. Parts of Hebei, Henan, Shandong and Xinjiang are expected to reach over 40 degrees, according to the National Meteorological Center.
The center issued an orange high temperature alert at 6pm last night.
Yesterday 13 provinces and regions in northern, central, northwestern and eastern China sweltered, with northern China's Hebei Province enduring a top temperature of 42.3 degrees and issuing its second red high temperature alert.
Four elderly people died as a result of the heat in central Henan Province where the temperature reached 41.3 degrees yesterday at Zhengzhou, capital of the province.
Rain will ease the heat in Northern China tomorrow night but the high temperatures will remain elsewhere.
Meteorological authorities will issue an orange alert if the temperature reaches 37 degrees and a red alert at 40 degrees.
Heavy rain will hit Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan, Zhejiang and Fujian Provinces today. Rainfalls of up to 70 millimeters are expected along with gales, thunderstorms and hail.
Tropical storm Nangka blew across the central Philippines yesterday, whipping up a tornado that ripped the roofs off houses and killed four fishermen and officials. Two more people were drowned in floods, according to an Associated Press report. Nangka is forecast to arrive on the coast of Fujian and Guangdong on Sunday.
