Today set to be dry and cool
SUBURBAN Chongming County saw the worst of the wet weather yesterday, recording 128 millimeters of rain as of 9pm, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
At the Xujiahui weather station, precipitation was measured at 40 millimeters as the first rains of this year’s flood season — which began officially on Monday and is set to last for 122 days — fell on the city.
“The rain was triggered by the coming together of warm and cold fronts,” said Fu Yi, one of the bureau’s chief service officers.
Rain and lightning alerts were issued as thundershowers rumbled through most of the city, while the flood prevention authority issued its first warning of the season after several elevated highways and roads became inundated.
Despite yesterday’s deluge, today is forecast to be dry, though the overnight wet conditions will mean the high temperature will be a modest 25 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow will be cloudy, though should remain dry until later in the evening, while the mercury will be much the same as today.
