Train stalls in tunnel, passengers exit from driver cab
A train on Metro Line 10 broke down this morning shortly after it left a station and all of its doors could not be opened, forcing passengers to evacuate one by one from the driver's cab.
The Metro operator said the accident occurred at 10:38am when the train suddenly stopped in the tunnel between Songyuan Road Station and Hongqiao Road Station. Its operation could not be resumed.
The Metro operator activated an emergency plan and asked the following train to pull the paralyzed train back to Songyuan Road Station to let passengers get out.
Some passengers said in their microblogs on Weibo.com that they were trapped in the carriages for more than 10 minutes because the doors failed to open. When the train was pulled back to the station, they had to line up and leave the train through a narrow door in the driver's cab.
A Metro worker on the train said they had pulled the emergency brakes on the train to try to open the doors but failed.
Some passengers expressed fears that the failure of the train's door system could threaten their lives if a fire occurs.
The service resumed at 11am, the Metro operator said.
