Transport runs later for visitors

VISITORS to the World Expo need not worry about a lack of public transport at night to take them home.

Both Expo bus routes and certain Metro lines have extended their operating hours.

Metro Lines 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9, which usually close at 11pm, will have trains running to just past midnight. People can take trains from stations serving the Expo site -- Xizang Road S., Luban Road, Nanpu Bridge and Madang Road in Puxi and Houtan, Gaoke Road W., Yaohua Road, Changqing Road and Yuntai Road in the Pudong New Area.

Boarding will not be allowed at any other stations although passengers will still be able to exit from them.

The late-night trains, which will end at 0:10am, will run at 15-minute intervals.

For bus travelers, the last buses will leave the Expo site at 1am.

But people taking ferries will have to leave the Expo earlier as the last ferry sails at 10:45pm.

Detailed schedules can be found on www.shmetro.com or by dialing 64370000.

A record 5.79 million people took the subway on Thursday, officials reported.
