Travel firm suspended after deadly bus crash
SHANGHAI Xiangda Travel Service Co Ltd, whose tour bus had a fatal accident last Sunday, has been ordered to suspend operation, local tourism authorities said this morning.
The tour bus crashed head-on with a truck on a highway near Changshu, a city in neighboring Jiangsu Province, killing 14 people and injuring 20 others. The bus driver was later tested positive of drug taking and fatigue driving.
Xiangda said all the bus passengers joined the tour through several travel websites.
The Shanghai Tourism Administration has also ordered those websites to check their operation and improve services.
The administration will conduct a citywide inspection on travel agencies ahead of the May 1 Labor Day holiday to ensure tourist safety.
