Trial runs on Line 11's 2nd phase
SHANGHAI Metro authorities said yesterday that trains were running on trial on Line 11 for the second phase which is expected to put into service later this year.
The new subway track, connecting downtown Jiangsu Road to Pudong New Area, will partly alleviate the pressure on Metro Line 2 - the busiest subway line in the city.
The Line 11 extension is among the three subways or extensions that will be put into service later this year, the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group said yesterday. The other two are Metro Line 12 and Line 16. The city now has 12 lines in service with a total daily volume of more than 7 million.
"Passengers will have more choices after the new line is completed," said Wang Zhenhui, a project engineer with Line 11.
The line will connect Line 1 and Line 9 at Xujiahui, Line 6 and Line 8 at the Oriental Sports Center.
Most of the Metro stations along the line have been completed.
