Visitors to be instructed how to use Bund taps
VISITORS to restrooms on the Bund are to be taught how to use the automatic taps after a number of breakages.
Huangpu District public sanitation officials also said that the restrooms would be open later because of the huge number of visitors to the area after its restoration.
"Some visitors from other provinces didn't know how to use inductive taps," said an official with the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau's Huangpu District branch. "They twist the taps with such great force that they break."
All the broken taps have now been repaired, officials said, but workers would be on hand to explain how visitors should use them.
The bureau also said that some people were standing on the water closets when they used them, which was making them very dirty.
In response to complaints that the restrooms closed too early and were difficult to find when it got dark, the official said that when designing the restroom locations and opening times, they had underestimated the visitor volume.
The restrooms are now to remain open until 10pm and the one under the observatory platform and one opposite Jinling Road E. will be open around the clock.
Officials have also had to increase manpower to cope with the rubbish that visitors leave on the Bund and throw into the river.
