Warm and sunny days ahead for the holiday

THE National Day holiday is set to be partly sunny with comfortable temperatures, meteorologists said yesterday.

Most days during the holiday should see sunshine with a mix of clouds and temperatures ranging between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

The low during the holiday will be 17 degrees on Monday and Tuesday while the weekly high will hit 27 degrees, likely on Thursday.

Friday will see overcast skies, but no rain is forecast for the holiday.

"The weather will be good for outdoor sports," the bureau said.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Tourism Bureau said yesterday that the city is expected to welcome more than 7 million tourists during the eight-day holiday, up about 10 percent from the same period last year.

About 15,774 flights are expected to depart or arrive at the city's two airports during the holiday, up 7 percent from the same period last year. Sanya in Hainan Province, Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province and Wuyishan in Fujian Province are among the most popular destinations.
