Watchdog in transport crackdown
THE transport watchdog has caught 142 taxis and long-distance buses operating without licenses so far this month.
Shanghai Traffic Law Enforcement Team increased its force to nearly 900 agents at the beginning of the month and, in addition to taxis, is focusing on the city's major provincial roads to watch out for illegal bus operators.
About 200,000 travelers are leaving by the city's expressways every day for Spring Festival. One coach spotted on the National Highway 320 near local Fengjing Toll Station last week had a counterfeit signboard and wasn't licensed for passengers.
Agents also reported that there are still cases of cabbies dumping passengers. In a recent example, a passenger at Hongqiao Airport wanted to go the nearby bus station but the driver told him to get out after they had left the taxi stand where agents were on patrol.
