Water pipe burst closes busy road

THE off-ramp from the elevated Hongmei Road S. near to the Outer Ring Road had to be closed to all traffic yesterday due to a burst water main, which caused significant flooding in the area, the city’s water supply company said.
Shanghai SMI Water Group said that it would “work around the clock” to fix the problem, adding that despite the road closure, there had been no disruption to the supply of water to nearby homes.
The recent cold snap has played havoc with the city’s water network, which is unused to such chilly conditions.
