Week set to be warm and dry
DESPITE the recent cold spell, the weather is set to warm up significantly this week, which is good news for anyone with tickets for the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament, which got under way yesterday.
The mercury could rise to as high as 26 degrees Celsius over the coming days, with the lows unlikely to fall below 13 degrees, forecasters said.
The chilliest place in Shanghai yesterday was Chongming County, where the temperature dropped to an autumnal 10 degrees.
Despite the brighter outlook, a lack of wind over the weekend means that much of the city will be quite smoggy today, the forecasters said.
The air quality should improve later in the day, however, which is handy for those hoping to enjoy the last osmanthus blossoms of the year.
The sweet-smelling blooms should be around for a couple of weeks, said a Shanghai Botanical Garden official.
