Winter finally over, Shanghai basks in sunshine
WITH sufficient sunshine, Shanghai's temperature kept rising today and peaked at 26.1 degrees Celsius around 1pm in the downtown area.
The city's average temperature has stayed above 10 degrees since last Saturday which is considered the first day of spring in 2012 because, meteorologically, the advent of spring is defined by five straight days with an average temperature above 10 degrees Celsius.
Last Saturday also marks the end of a 107-day winter that began last December 8, compared with an average winter length of 93 days in the past decade, Shanghai meteorologists said.
Shanghai will have another cold front on Friday with the maximum temperature plunging to 15 degrees Celsius, the weather bureau said. The low will drop to 5 degrees this weekend.
Showers are expected tomorrow and Friday. Afterwards the weather will turn cloudy.
