Work on walkway resumes

CONSTRUCTION of a C-shaped elevated walkway over a busy intersection in Pudong's central Lujiazui area resumed this month and it's expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Construction started last April but was suspended at the end of last year for the construction of a road tunnel to connect the Yan'an Road Tunnel to Pudong's Jinqiao Export Processing Zone.

The walkway will connect the Lujiazui Metro Station and nearby buildings such as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Jin Mao Tower and Super Brand Mall.

The circular walkway will be built over the intersection of five main roads including Century Avenue and Lujiazui Road W. The intersection has no traffic lights so pedestrians have to make long detours or jaywalk across busy roads.

The walkway will help pedestrians get around the area more quickly and safely and give tourists good views of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Jin Mao Tower.
