Work set to begin on Line 17
Construction work will begin soon on Metro Line 17 that will link the Hongqiao transportation hub to Zhujiajiao and Oriental Land in Qingpu district.
The city’s environmental protection authorities have given its approval for the Line 17 project this week, meaning the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group can invite tenders for the project.
Construction was supposed to start by the end of the year, according to an earlier blueprint.
It will have 13 stations along the 35.3km route that goes westwards from Hongqiao Railway Station and have stops at Xujing, Zhaoxiang, Qingpu New Town, Zhujiajiao ancient water town and Oriental Land.
The Hongqiao Railway Station will be the existing junction of Line 2 and Line 10, while the construction of the other 12 stations is expected to be completed by 2016.
Six of them will be underground while the other six are elevated stations.
