Year of the Ox set for a chilly start
A strong cold wave will turn Shanghai into an icy, windy city starting today, prompting the meteorological bureau to issue a frigid-weather warning and promising a chilly start to the new lunar year.
The mercury is forecast to fall by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius within 48 hours, dropping the minimum temperature to minus 5 degrees tomorrow and Sunday in the downtown, and 9 to 7 degrees below zero in the suburbs, with severe frost.
Skies are expected to be cloudy over the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday, the first two days of the Year of the Ox. The weather bureau said the mercury should rebound on Wednesday, with a bit of rain.
