Year of the Snake to start out cold and dreary

THIS afternoon's snowfall in Shanghai is expected to get heavier tonight as the temperature drops to zero degrees Celsius, weather forecasters said.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued its Spring Festival weather forecast today.

Tomorrow will be overcast with snow. The temperature will range from minus 1 to 2 degrees.

Saturday, Chinese New Year's Eve, will also be overcast with snow in some areas of the city. The mercury will range from minus 1 to 4 degrees.

Sunday, Chinese New Year's Day, will be overcast to cloudy. The temperature will range from 2 to 6 degrees.

February 11 is forecast to be overcast with rain and a high of 6 degrees and a low of 3.

February 12 is expected to be overcast with more rain. The mercury will range between 3 and 9 degrees.

The clouds will remain on February 14 and a light rain is forecast at night. Meteorologists said the high will be 10 degrees with a low of 4.

More of the same is expected for February 15, although the mercury will fluctuate between 6 and 9 degrees, the bureau said.
