Yellow heat alert as Shanghai swelters at 36 C
SHANGHAI weather forecaster issued a yellow heat alert this morning as the mercury is expected to soar to 36 degrees Celsius in the city.
The Shanghai Metrological Bureau issued the alert at 9:30am for the third consecutive day.
Local maximum temperature will stay above 35 degrees Celsius throughout the week with thundershowers in the afternoon, the bureau said, adding that Shanghai is under the influence of a subtropical high.
A yellow alert is the lowest of a three-level warning system, indicating a high temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, while a red alert means an extremely high temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius.
