10 months' prison for stabbing Japanese
A DISCIPLE of the famous Shaolin Temple has been jailed for 10 months for attacking a Japanese man whom he suspected of having an affair with his girlfriend, a local court said yesterday.
The victim, who was actually a client of the woman, a wine seller in a bar, suffered from fracture on the arm and fingers after he was stabbed by a watermelon knife.
The defendant, identified as Dong, was also ordered to pay 11,000 yuan (US$1,692) in compensation to the victim by the Changning District People's Court.
Dong learnt kung fu at Shaolin Temple, which is renowned for it martial arts, as a child. He met the woman, identified as Juan, early last year during a get-together. The two migrant workers became lovers.
But Juan's parents disapproved because Dong didn't have a stable job, and after much persuasion Juan decided to end the affair. Dong threatened to kill her family if Juan insisted on breaking up.
Juan then moved out the room they rented together and quit the job in an electronics factory. She soon found a new job as a wine seller in a bar on Xianxia Road with a nickname of Little Lily.
She was supposed to bring clients to the bar and induce them to buy wine - the more the better. To do her job well, she had to maintain contacts with different men. After Dong learned of her new job, he became suspicious.
One night last September Juan picked up a Japanese client from the airport and took him to the bar, where, to her surprise, Dong was waiting.
On seeing the Japanese man, a jealous Dong lunged at him with a watermelon knife. The victim's arm and fingers were broken because he tried to stop Dong with his arm.
