2 company officials on trial for graft

LI Jun, former vice president of Shanghai Huayi (Group) Company, stood on trial yesterday over charges that he took more than 5.47 million yuan (US$858,888) as bribes, the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court said yesterday.

Li’s long-time subordinate He Gang was also in court yesterday, charged with taking some 2.67 million yuan in bribes and seeking profits for others.

Prosecutors claimed that when Li was the manager of the chemical company based in Shanghai between 2014 and 2015, he and his subordinate He helped a local company owner surnamed Jin and a Guangdong-based company’s general manager surnamed Lin to profit from chemical material, sales and projects.

In return, they took 5.47 million yuan and 2.67 million yuan as bribes respectively from both of them.

Li and He have been in detention since May.

Li and He have said they would respect the court’s ruling.

The court had no verdict yesterday.
