2 detained over fake notes

Two women were handed 15 days of administrative detention for using counterfeit 100 yuan (US$16.34) banknotes, officials in Shanghai’s Songjiang District said yesterday.
The women surnamed Song and Li were caught on Thursday when they attempted to use a fake note at a stationery store inside a supermarket.
Police said the women at first gave the cashier a genuine note. After the cashier scanned it with a currency detector, they asked for it back and switched it to a fake note. A security guard noticed the switch and alerted the police.
Police said Song and Li had confessed to using eight fake notes in Songjiang.
The fake notes had the serial number W059612732.
