2 held for smuggling car parts
Shanghai Customs have detained two suspects who allegedly tried to smuggle in old and abandoned vehicle parts, computer accessories and screen monitors into China.
Customs inspectors said the duo faked the seal and bills of lading of a broker company and declared the goods as integrated circuits.
About 40,822 kilograms of abandoned car parts, 13,144 kg of abandoned computer parts, 7,620 pieces of abandoned screens and 2,725 kilograms of old motorcycle parts were found hidden in eight containers in June, inspectors said.
Two more shipments were seized in the next few days.
All goods are considered as solid waste and banned from importing into China. Between February and July, Shanghai Customs seized more than 5,462 tons of smuggled solid waste.
