2 killed after taxi rams into truck

TWO people died yesterday when a taxi rammed into a truck on Zoumatang Bridge in Zhabei District, Shanghai police said.

The taxi driver and a passenger on the front seat died on the spot, while the back seat passenger was seriously injured.

The taxi was being driven from south to north about 9:15am when it hit the truck of a logistics company on the opposite lane, police said.

Witnesses said both the taxi and the truck were moving in normal speed when the accident happened.

The taxi, a Volkswagen Santana, was completely destroyed as it rammed into the front of the truck head on.

There was no significant damage to the truck.

The driver of the truck insisted that he was driving in his own lane.

Police said they were investigating the incident.
