2 men charged with robbing cash, jewelry
TWO men have been charged with robbing cash and jewelry totaling almost 60,000 yuan (US$9,400) from a prostitute after posing as clients, the Huangpu District People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
The suspects, aged 22 and 24, hail form central China’s Hubei Province, but traveled to Shanghai on May 4 to commit crime, prosecutors said.
A day later, the men were contacted by a woman who responded to an advertisement they had posted on WeChat offering money for sex.
The suspects met the woman at a hotel later that day. After they had both had sex with her, they tied her up and threatened her with a knife and a syringe — which they claimed contained a deadly drug — and demanded money, the prosecutors said.
The woman provided them with details of her bank accounts, from which the pair withdrew a total of 54,600 yuan. They also jewelry worth about 4,700 yuan, prosecutors said.
Police traced the men to Zhengzhou, central China’s Henan Province, and took them into custody.
