38,000 running and roads will be closed

THE 2017 Shanghai International Marathon, which starts at the Bund at 7am on Sunday, will feature a total of 38,000 runners in the 42.2-kilometer full marathon, 10km and 5km races.
Unlike previous years, there is no 21km half marathon this year.
The 8,000 places for the half marathon were instead allotted to the full marathon, which now has 28,000 runners — 8,000 more than last year.
The 10km and 5km races will continue to feature 5,000 runners each.
A total of 3,800 volunteers and 300 referees will be helping at this year’s event, as well as medical and security staff.
A mobilization meeting for volunteers and referees was held over the weekend, which was followed by training to help the volunteers to get familiar with their work routine on the race day.
Some volunteers have also received emergency training, including how to handle heart scares using an automated external defibrillator.
In the 2015 Shanghai International Marathon, a 26-year-old runner suffered cardiac problems and was attended by volunteers and doctors who happened to be running in the race.
The runner recovered consciousness after receiving cardiac defibrillation and intravenous infusion. He was then rushed to the hospital by ambulance equipped to the event.
Elevated sections shut
A few downtown streets and some sections on the elevated roads will be closed during this year’s Shanghai International Marathon.
Police said yesterday that several roads will be affected by Sunday’s races.
From midnight on Saturday to 7:45am on Sunday, all vehicles will be banned from Nansuzhou Road, Beijing Road E., Dianchi Road, Nanjing Road E., Hankou Road and Jiujiang Road between Zhongshan No. 1 Road E. and Sichuan Road M.
Vehicles are also barred from using Zhongshan Road E. between Waibaidu Bridge and Xinkaihe Road from 5am to 7:45am on Sunday, while from 5 to 7am, no traffic will be allowed on Sichuan Road M. between Fuzhou Road and Beijing Road E.
From 6:30 to 7:45am, the off-ramp of Yan’an Elevated Road at Jiangxi Road will be closed as will Yan’an Road E. between Zhongshan No. 1 Road E. and Sichuan Road M.
From 7 to 8:30am, the off-ramp of Yan’an Elevated Road at Huashan Road will be closed, and likewise from 7:15 to 9am for the off-ramp of the North-South Elevated Road at Huaihai Road.
From 6:30 to 8:30am, all vehicles will be banned on Yandang Road between Huaihai Road M. and Fuxing Park.
From 8:30am to 1pm, the Yunjin Road exit of Longyao Road Tunnel won’t be open.
From 7am to 1:30pm, other streets where the runners will pass will also be closed.
A few bus lines whose routes overlap with the running course will be rerouted on Sunday, police said.
