4 held on suspicion of drug trafficking
FOUR suspected members of an interprovincial drug trafficking gang have been detained by police in Changning District.
Some 21 kilograms of methamphetamine was found in the trunk of a van used by two suspects, police said yesterday.
According to police, one suspect, surnamed Ji, bought drugs in southern China’s Guangdong Province on a number of occasions in July.
Two other suspects, a man surnamed Qi and a woman surnamed Zhang, would bring the drugs to Shanghai by car and sell them, police said.
On September 18, police became aware that Ji had taken a flight to Shenzhen in Guangdong, and that Qi was driving toward the same city.
Believing that they were going to conduct a drug deal, officers were sent to Guangdong and along with Shenzhen police traced Qi’s van.
Qi drove back to Shanghai on September 24, a day after Ji had returned on a flight.
Police stopped his van at dawn on September 25, held Qi and an occupant surnamed Wang, and seized the drugs.
Ji and Zhang were later held in a hotel room.
