4 years for driver who fought cops

A driver who knocked down a police motorcycle and injured a police patrol officer as he tried to dodge a road check was sentenced to four years in prison yesterday in the Minhang District People's Court.

Zheng Yingsheng, 31, was driving an unlicensed car along Zhongchun Road when a traffic police officer surnamed Wang asked him to stop for a routine check on June 30 last year.

Zheng didn't stop and Wang chased him to Qixin Road and told Zheng to get out of the car. Zheng suddenly tried to steer away from the officer and when Wang tried to block him, Zheng sped away, knocking down Wang's motorcycle in the rush. Zheng drove to Xinli Road and crashed into a police patrol car.

He abandoned his car and tried to escape. When he was grabbed by an officer surnamed Zhang, Zheng attacked him and caused fractures in Zhang's right thigh.

He was then overpowered as more policemen arrived.
