90 restaurant workers receive back pay
ABOUT 90 employees of a restaurant chain that closed earlier this month have received unpaid wages through the local government’s guarantee fund.
The manager of one of the Memory Restaurant outlets in Huangpu District said he got 13,000 yuan (US$2,000).
“It was paid by the guarantee fund, not by the boss, who has disappeared,” the man, surnamed Guo, told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
“Most of the 50 people who worked at the restaurant have now been paid,” he said.
The manager of another outlet said that he and about 40 of his colleagues have also been paid wages owed to them from before the restaurant closed.
The guarantee fund was set up in 1999 in Shanghai and is managed by district social security and human resources bureaus.
