A charity rebuilds 7 schools in Sichuan
THE Shanghai Charity Foundation is using 233 million yuan (US$34 million) worth of donations to help rebuild seven schools in Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province, officials said yesterday.
The schools were damaged in last May's earthquake. More than 50 teachers and students were killed at one of the schools, Juyuan Middle School.
Reconstruction work began in August. Work was completed at Tuqiao Primary School in January. Work was expected to be complete at all the others by the end of June, said the foundation.
"We have been to Dujiangyan many times to learn how to use donations," said Yu Cai, deputy director of the foundation. "We made decisions after discussing them with donors."
Last year, the foundation received more than 464 million yuan in donations for the quake-hit area.
